They all care deeply about the health of our communities, and meeting the needs of Our Hospital. This balanced approach to the Board composition provides bias-free governance and reflects the genuine interests of the broader community.

Mike Harrower

Chair

Michael Harrower resides in Muskoka with his wife Fiona and has three children. A multiple scholarship recipient, he was educated in Canada, Switzerland and England and is a graduate of the Ivey School of Business, The University of Western Ontario (H.B.A.) and the University of Reading, England (M.Sc. Urban Land Appraisal). As President of Harrower Properties Inc., and a director and officer of a group of related companies, Mike has been engaged in property development and management for over 35 years. He has developed, redeveloped, and managed residential, retail, office, storage and industrial properties. His current portfolio includes office and industrial properties as well as retail and residential lands. Harrower Properties has acted as a third party property manager for national clients such as The National Bank, Standard Life and C.M.H.C. and for a variety of private clients. He is also a Certified Shopping Centre Manager accredited by The International Council of Shopping Centres. In the late 1980’s Mike took a sabbatical from his own group of companies and joined The Imax Corporation as Vice President of Corporate Development. Reporting directly to the Chairman, and, as a member of the Management Committee, he led the company’s worldwide initiative to develop entertainment Imax theatres. Over the years Mike has been active in several community and charitable organizations and is a student of world religions. He stays active skiing, waterskiing, playing basketball and trekking.

Shelly Mclean

Vice-chair

Shelly is a retired senior executive from a Canadian Financial Institution. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Guelph, a Masters of Business Administration from Athabasca University and the Chartered Director designation. She has been a community volunteer for the Muskoka Stay at Home Gala and the Hamilton Health Sciences Integrated Research Ethics Board. She is an avid golfer, curler and snowshoer. Shelly and her husband are permanent residents of Muskoka

Andrew Buwalda

Treasurer

Andrew Buwalda is currently the General Manager of Deerhurst Resort, a historic full-service resort property located in the town of Huntsville, Ontario in the beautiful region of Muskoka. Andrew oversees all aspects of the resort’s operation which includes several hundred accommodation units, two golf courses, 40,000 square feet of meeting and event space, multiple restaurants and hundreds of year-round and seasonal employees.Prior to his role as GM, Andrew has held various senior finance and operational roles for several organizations including Regional Director of Finance & Analysis for Skyline Investments, VP of Finance & Operations for the Hotel Association of Canada, and Regional Director of Finance for Freed Hotels & Resorts (the current owners of Deerhurst Resort).Andrew has served on several boards and is currently involved in the following organizations in addition to his duties with the Huntsville Hospital Foundation: Co-chair of the Niagara College Professional Advisory Committee; Global Director with the Hospitality Financial & Technology Professionals Association; Director with the Huntsville Municipal Accommodation Tax Association.Andrew has been a resident of Huntsville for over ten years and spent his childhood growing up just outside of Bracebridge on Lake Muskoka. Andrew is thrilled to be supporting the mission and vision of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation during such a critical time in the organization’s history.In his free time, Andrew enjoys spending time on the water and exploring Muskoka with his wife and son. Some of his favourite places include Limberlost, Port Carling and Huntsville’s historic downtown.

Christine Cook

Secretary

Christine is a chartered accountant, tax specialist, and graduate of the Ivey Business School at Western University. Christine has more than 25 years of experience in senior finance roles in broadcasting, production, print and online media. She was the Senior Director of Finance at CBC, SVP of Finance at Bell Globemedia, SVP of Finance at Canwest Media, and most recently The CFO of The Globe and Mail.Christine has experience with media mergers, acquisitions, systems integrations, organization efficiencies, regulatory policy, and privacy oversight. In addition, Christine has been a member of various pension committee’s, audit committees, and board of directors for subsidiary companies of Bell Globe Media, Canwest Media and The Globe and Mail.Christine and her family have been avid cottagers on Kawagama Lake for 50 years. Since retiring from full time work, she and her husband live here 6 to 8 months per year and are keen to give back to the community. Christine has three children and has volunteered on non-profit boards in support of their various sporting activities (swimming, soccer, volleyball). Christine’s own hobbies include golf, tennis, and she is an avid equestrian.

James Estey

James M. Estey serves as Independent Chairman of the Board of the Gibson Energy Inc. Mr. Estey is the retired Chairman of UBS Securities Canada Inc., a financial services company, and has more than 30 years of experience in financial markets. Mr. Estey joined Alfred Bunting and Company as an institutional equity salesperson in 1980 after working at A.E. Ames & Co. for seven years. In 1994, Mr. Estey became the head of the Canadian Equities business, and in 2002 Mr. Estey was appointed President & Chief Executive Officer of UBS Securities Canada Inc. In January 2008, Mr. Estey assumed the role of Chairman of UBS Securities Canada Inc. Mr. Estey also serves on the Advisory Board of the Edwards School of Business at the University of Saskatchewan.

Trevor Groh

Trevor and his wife currently reside in Huntsville with their two young kids. Trevor and his brother own Groh Construction Inc in Huntsville where the build new homes and cottages throughout the Muskoka region. Trevor and his brother helped construct the new addition to the foundation board. Trevor is a big supporter of the business cares program and the Huntsville Hospital Foundation. His wife works as a ICF nurse in the hospital. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Muskoka Ski Club in Huntsville. Trevor enjoys days on the lake with his family and friends though out the summer and is a avid skier at Muskoka Ski Club.

Andy MacCulloch

Andy MacCulloch is a senior marketing and business development manager with over 30 years international experience in leading professional service, industrial and consumer products companies. He founded and managed Conundrum Solutions, a strategic marketing consultancy serving clients in marketing strategy and execution, including spearheading major international events. He has increasingly turned his attention to the not-for-profit sector and volunteering. Andy holds English, Law and MBA degrees from Western University. He enjoys playing Celtic and acoustic music and founded the annual Live@thecottage fundraiser for the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, in 2020. Andy is married to Brigitte with three adult children. His family have been on Lake of Bays for nearly 90 years and have recently become full-time residents.

John Maclennan

John and his wife Jane are “refugees” from Lake Rosseau. They moved to beautiful Lake Vernon in 2016 when he retired from the investment industry. He has a B.Sc. from the University of Western Ontario and MBA from Queen’s. John has been active in many fund raising activities and anticipates transferring that experience to the Hospital Foundation.The MacLennan have four adult children all of whom have abandoned Ontario (which gives John and Jane some great travel destinations). Florida is a winter destination but time there is interspersed with family ski trips and various winter activities.

Charles Neuwald

Charles and his wife, Donna, are now permanent residents in Huntsville. In August 2022, their cottage turned into their home, and they enjoy exploring the Muskoka region together. They are often joined by their two grown children. Charles is a lawyer and has been in practice for 40 years. He has a Bachelor of Civil Law Degree and a Bachelor of Common Law Degree from the McGill University Faculty of Law. He is a senior partner at the firm Ecclestone, Hamer, Poisson, Neuwald and Freeman in Toronto. His practice focuses on Commercial and Civil Litigation, Debtor/Creditor Law and the Automotive Industry. He also has an office in Oakville, Ontario where his general practice includes Wills and Estates, Real Estate and Corporate/Commercial Litigation. Charles is very interested in health care causes and looks forward to soliciting support for, and participating in, fundraising activities on behalf of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.

Robert Pielsticker

Retired audit partner KPMG (1969-2010) providing support to a broad range of public and private companies, specializing in the transportation sector. A frequent presenter and author with industry associations. Very active in the Not For Profit sector throughout his career having served on the Board of several companies and twice Chair of AboutFace, a national charity providing support to individuals with facial differences and their families. Successful in both soliciting support for and participating in fund raising activities. Awarded a Fellowship as a distinguished member of his profession.

Dr. Shervin Rowshani

Dr. Rowshani lived in Toronto while attending University of Toronto for his Honours Bachelor of Science and his Dentistry degree. Upon graduation as a dentist, he worked in small towns across Ontario and eventually moved to Huntsville in 2013. He has lived and worked in Muskoka as a full-time dentist since then. He is an avid volunteer and has been involved in not-for-profit initiatives in the community. He participates in variety of causes both as a donor and volunteer. Health care causes, animal causes and feeding the ones in need are close to his heart. In 2017, he went back to university to obtain his Executive MBA degree at Rotman School of management, University of Toronto. In summer of 2020, in response to PPE shortages early on the pandemic, he launched PPE Supply Inc, a PPE manufacturing company, in Huntsville. They produce medical grade surgical masks and face-shields for health care professionals across Canada. He has been a supporter of HHF as a business care partner and joined the board in 2017. He enjoys the beautiful outdoors in our county while biking and running. And he recently ventured out to learn bass guitar, a childhood dream of his.

Cheryl Harrison

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare President & Ceo

A Registered Nurse by background, Cheryl Harrison has been the President and Chief Executive Officer at Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare since May 2022. She holds a Masters degree in Health Policy, Evaluation & Management from the University of Toronto, in addition to the Certified Health Executive designation.Cheryl has served in the healthcare sector with distinction as an experienced senior executive with a progressive track record of roles in health care in large- and medium-sized community hospitals.Most recently, Cheryl served as the Executive Vice-President of Patient Programs & People Strategy at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital where she led a variety of regional programs and services in North Simcoe Muskoka, and was a key member of the hospital’s pandemic response command team. Cheryl and her husband live in Severn Bridge at their cottage turned home where they enjoy family time with their three daughters and three delightful grandchildren.

Helene Gayowsky

HH Auxiliary Co-President

Helene is the Co-President for the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary. She worked in Mississauga in corporate Human Resources for a number of years before retiring. Helen has been a volunteer with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Mississauga Food Bank for about 15 years in Mississauga. She and her husband have owned a condo in Huntsville for the past 25 years and it was an easy decision to leave the city and make Huntsville their permanent home. Helene has been a member of HHA for 2 years and during that time have been amazed by the comradery, strength, and dedication of the Auxiliary. She enjoys knitting, reading, walking, curling and cross-country skiing.
