INCREASING CARE CLOSER TO HOME
Meet Sam Peace, Stroke Centre RN
“YOU CAN’T PICK OR CHOOSE when or where you will have a critical illness or stroke,” says Huntsville Hospital RN Sam Peace. “So our goal here at the Muskoka District Stroke Centre and in our ICU is to provide more extensive care to a wider segment of the population here, close to home. That is what you’re investing in when you donate to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation.”
Sam Peace met his bride in Toronto while studying nursing and was married in Muskoka. While he grew up in the B.C. interior, he studied nursing at Humber College/UNB to say he’s lived and studied almost coast to coast is an understatement.
“Rural healthcare has a broad scope and serves a wider population; it has to be this way because we have less specialization to rely on. The ICU where I used to work has a higher level need for technology, even in the beds we use. New ICU monitors are more advanced and enable us to stay connected to patients even when they are being moved around the hospital or transported elsewhere after being stabilized. Our CPR technology provides real-time monitoring.”
Sam sees nearly equal numbers of full-time and seasonal patients in his high-intensity role at the hospital. When you’re here in Muskoka, this is your hospital..
“Every donation to this hospital means we can acquire the technology that helps us find solutions even when our patients can’t speak for themselves, says Sam. “The more we have to invest, the more we can do here where patients can be supported by their families.”
Central Patient Monitoring Was a Great Start
Thanks to donors, our professionals can now monitor multiple patients remotely, no matter where they go in the hospital. You made our Central Patient Monitoring system a reality. And we’re just as sure we can continue to improve emergency and ICU care with donations for these important technologies and equipment.
